The quarterly stakeholder engagements provide the platforms for women to be educated on their rights, and other legal and social barriers they may be dealing with. These engagements were part of the implementation of the Women’s Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) Project and brought on board officers from agencies in the districts responsible for handling issues of nature.
The women were educated on the right channels of communication to seek redress to their issues that hinder their participation in agriculture and economic activities.
The event was organized in Mion District and West Gonja Municipal in quarter 2 of year 4. The meetings brought together selected Legal Literacy Volunteers (LLVs), gender champions, community and district level stakeholders. It was meant to engage with traditional leaders and state actors to make commitments and develop strategies to bring about changes in line with policy recommendations, develop action plans targeting reform in socio-cultural norms affecting women and validate policy briefs.
The meetings engaged all actors present, community stakeholders, District stakeholders and selected LLVs on ways of achieving optimum results for the WEACT Project in the various Districts, participated by Officers from Ghana Police Service (GPS), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Judicial Service, Social Welfare, National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Ghana Health Service (GHS), Gender Desk, and Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD).
The community level stakeholders who participated were community chiefs, traditional council members, religious leaders, and women group leaders.
