Shea Network Ghana Participates in 2024 Bolga International Craft Fair

Shea Network Ghana (SNG) actively participated in the 2024 Bolga International Craft Fair (BICAF) and Kayayei Business and Leadership Fair, which commenced today at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga. The five-day event, organized by TradeAid Integrated in collaboration with the Purim African Youth Development Platform (PAYDP), is supported by UNDP Ghana, Canadian Feed The Children, Access Bank, and other partners.

This year’s fair is themed “Empowering the Kayayei and Entrepreneurs through Business Innovation and Digital Inclusion for Sustainable Growth.” It brings together artisans, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to showcase their innovations and discuss strategies for advancing economic opportunities, particularly for Kayayei (female head porters) and small-scale business owners.

The event features a variety of activities, including product exhibitions, a food bazaar, networking sessions, business seminars, cultural displays, and investment forums. These activities are designed to foster connections, provide learning opportunities, and promote sustainable business practices.

During the fair, representatives from Shea Network Ghana engaged with participants, particularly exhibitors, to learn more about their products, production processes, and the challenges they face in their industries. This interaction aimed to explore potential areas where SNG can provide support, whether through capacity-building, advocacy, or market linkages.

A representative from Shea Network Ghana noted the importance of such fairs in creating opportunities for businesses and promoting innovation. “The Bolga International Craft Fair is a vital platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their creativity and connect with a wider audience. It also provides an avenue to address challenges and identify ways to enhance the economic activities of participants,” she said.

The fair’s focus on empowering Kayayei through business innovation and digital inclusion aligns with SNG’s broader commitment to supporting women and vulnerable groups in Shea-producing communities.

One exhibitor shared their appreciation for the event, highlighting the exposure it provides to local businesses. “Through this fair, we can share our stories, attract potential investors, and learn from others in the industry. It’s a great opportunity for us,” they stated.

The 2024 BICAF is expected to attract hundreds of participants from across Ghana and beyond, fostering economic growth and partnerships while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the region. Shea Network Ghana’s participation underscores its dedication to promoting sustainable development and supporting local entrepreneurs in achieving their goals.
