Shea Industry Leaders Gather in Tamale for World Shea Expo

On Thursday August 8, to Saturday August 10, 2024, industry leaders and stakeholders across the shea sector gathered in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital for a three-day event dubbed “The World Shea Expo”.

The event was held at the Modern City Hotel, organized by the Savannah Golden Tree, a Non-Governemetal Orgaznization (NGO) and its partners.

The expo was on the theme “Nurturing Growth, Empowering Communities” and served as a crucial platform for dialogue and collaboration among key players in the shea industry, including producers, processors, and exporters. The event’s theme highlighted the dual goals of promoting sustainable practices within the industry while ensuring that the communities involved in shea production are empowered and supported.

Various speakers at the event, emphasized the importance of nurturing the industry through an improved market access, tree conservation and finacial inclusion. They also addressed the need to support women, who form the backbone of the shea value chain, ensuring they receive the recognition and resources necessary to thrive.

The three-day event also presented opportunity for attendees to participate in panel discussions, workshops, and exhibitions that covered a range of topics, from innovative agricultural practices to advanced processing techniques with a special attention given to the role of women in the shea value chain
