OXFAM in Ghana Applauds SNG For Commitment to Empowering Shea Women Economically

Tamale, 25-10-2023– OXFAM in Ghana, a lead partner on the Women’s Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) Project has applauded Shea Network Ghana (SNG), one of its partners for being committed to empowering the lives of shea women and their unwavering commitment to the WEACT project.

The appaluds was made during a meeting held between the two organizations on Monday October 23, 2023 at the premises of SNG.

The Monday’s visit, was a buildup on an earlier assessment conducted in July this year as part of an ongoing assessment of the organization’s dedication to OXFAM’s principles and standards of practice, solidifying the two organization s’ partnership within the Women’s Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) Project.

The primary goal of this visit was to evaluate SNG’s organizational strengths and how it aligns with OXFAM’s principles and standards.

The joint Monitoring Team, was led by the WEACT Project Coordinator Madam Theresah Baveng.

The assessment emphasized the importance of the partnership between these two organizations in the context of empowering women and fostering economic advancement as both organizations have been working collaboratively to uplift women, enhance their economic prospects, and contribute to a more equitable society.

In a discussion held between the two organizations, OXFAM, praised the staff and management of SNG for their unwavering commitment to the WEACT project and women empowerment in general.

The team, also expressed satisfaction with the progress made by SNG since the previous visit in July, and commended the organization for its commitment not only to the WEACT Project, but also the partnership between the two.

Madam Theresah Baveng, the WEACT Project Coordinator who led the team in her remarks, said the follow-up assessment was essential as it highlights the important role of partnerships in driving meaningful and sustainable change in society.

On his part, Alhaji Iddi Zakaria, the Coordinator for SNG, reiterated the significance of the partnership, noting that their collaboration with OXFAM has played a pivotal role in expanding their impact.

He added that the dedication of both organizations to their partnership, as highlighted in the visit, sets the stage for a brighter future for the two organizations and the Shea women who are their direct beneficiaries.

He also said SNG will continue to leverage on strengths, knowledge, and resources resulting from their collaboration to bring about lasting change in the lives of shea women and communities where they work.

Alhaji Iddi called for more strategies from oxfam to support partners and also serve as steping stone for them to leverage for a bigger future collaboration .

The Coordinator also thanked OXFAM for always relying on SNG as its reliable partner due to their ability to deliver, an indication that the organization was on top of its affairs.

The joint efforts of OXFAM and SNG under the WEACT project have already yielded significant results, including increased access to financial resources, comprehensive business training, and leadership development opportunities for women in the region.

The collaboration between the two, serves as a shining example of how organizations can unite to advance progress and empower women on their journey toward economic self-sufficiency.

WEACT
The Women’s Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) project is a sixty (60) months (five year ) activity implemented by seven organizations with OXFAM as lead-partner.

The project seeks to influence the economic empowerment of women working in two value chains (Shea and cocoa) . The project started in 2020 and will end in 2025
