SNG Forms Eight-Member Committee to Oversee Gari Processing Center in Kananto

Shea Network Ghana (SNG) has formed an eight-member community committee to oversee the management and sustainability of a newly established gari processing center for women in Kananto. The committee formation marks a key milestone under the Women Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) project and is part of efforts to ensure the long-term impact and functionality of the center.

The committee, inaugurated in May 2025, is composed of diverse local stakeholders representing different segments of the community. The members include positions such as Secretary, Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, Traditional Authority Representative, Religious Representatives, and Gaazia (Women’s Leader), among others.

The committee’s main responsibilities include supervising the day-to-day operations of the gari processing center, ensuring transparency in financial and material management, mobilizing community support, coordinating maintenance, and facilitating training and accountability among the women using the facility.

The gari processing center was established by SNG as part of its sustainability strategy under the WEACT Project. It aims to support women’s livelihood diversification, food security, and economic empowerment in rural communities.

The WEACT project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented in partnership with Oxfam in Ghana and Shea Network Ghana, seeks to strengthen women’s rights, improve access to productive resources, and promote inclusive economic development.

The formation of the committee has been welcomed by the Kananto community, with traditional and religious leaders pledging their support to ensure the center becomes a lasting asset for local women and their families.
